Last Weekend I went to visit the Susanne Kaufmann production. Let me tell you it was quite a a revelation.
The products are made by a farmer family in the Bregenzerwald.
Ingo Metzler is an innovative farmer, fed up throwing all the whey (a side product in cheese production) away.
Whey contains lots of vitamins and minerals, so he got together with a chemist and started experimenting with health and cosmetic products.
Today next to the cheese production they produce their own cosmetics line and the Susanne Kaufmann line.
Since the Susanne Kaufmann products are based on alpine herbs, which you can hardly get without preservatives, they now also have their own herb garden in front of the house.

The whole product is made in this "factory" in Egg from the cows milk to the labeling of the products.
If you are looking for something pure, 100% natural and really controlled try the fantastic Susanne Kaufmann line.

The oldest and most prestigious soap making factory in Porto, Portugal, CLAUS PORTO was founded in 1887 by two world renowned chemists: Ferdinand Claus and Georges Schwedder. Together they created the base for what was to become one of the most important soap making factories ever.

Alpine Pflanzen-Wirkstoffe aus ökologischem Kräuteranbau bilden die Basis für die Naturkosmetik von Susanne Kaufmann. In einer Manufaktur im Bregenzerwald werden sie per Hand in reduziert designte Glasflakons und Tiegel abgefüllt. Die "Linie M" ist speziell auf die Bedürfnisse der Männerhaut abgestimmt. In allen fünf Produkten wirkt eine zellaktivierende Hydrokombination aus dem Zellschutz-Stabilisator Ectoin - und aus Inhaltsstoffen des Apfels. Das englische Sprichwort "An apple a day keeps the doctor away" scheint sich also auch bei der Gesunderhaltung der Haut zu bestätigen. Die Linie besteht aus Reinigungslotion, Peeling, Feuchtigkeitsgel, After-Shave-Balsam und einer Regenerationscreme.

Since some time we have been looking for a cosmetic line that is 100% natural, smells nice and looks nice. I like aveda, weleda, hauska  products but these are too big lines for a shop like ours. Organic Pharmacy looks nice but I did not get hold of their products so far.

Recently I discovered Susanne Kaufmann:

Susanne Kaufmann™ cosmetics are based on the traditional knowledge of plant remedies from the Bregenzerwald area and manufactured using the most modern production processes. The raw materials are mostly plant and herbal from the Bregenzerwald area.  All body care products are produced in by Ingo Metzler in Egg (approx. 10 km from Bezau). No chemical preservatives, mineral oil supplements (paraffin etc.) or artificial colouring/scent products are used. This means that the products have a restricted shelf-life, while providing a very gentle aroma with a natural colour. Liposomes based on vegetable lipids are used, together with encapsulated hyaluronic acid and blossom honey, in order to boost effectiveness and assure deep penetration into the skin. It is a unisex product.
